Daily Current Affairs 1, 2, 3 and 4 October 2026

Four days of current affairs can look like a lot when you open your notebook after a busy week. The easier approach is to connect the facts instead of trying to memorise every headline separately. The updates from 1 to 4 October 2026 bring together important developments in governance, economy, environment, science and technology, defence, Assam and Northeast India, infrastructure and sports. This article organises the major points in a simple revision-friendly format so you can understand the story first and remember the fact later.

One common mistake while preparing current affairs is collecting too many facts without understanding why they matter. For example, remembering that PM E-DRIVE has an outlay of ₹11,900 crore is easier when you connect it with electric mobility, charging infrastructure and cleaner transport. The same method works for the Green Energy Corridor, PM-SETU, quantum communication and the Asian Games results.

Quick Study Method: Read each topic once for understanding, underline only the important numbers and names, then use the one-liners and MCQs at the end for revision.

Daily Current Affairs 1 October 2026

1. UPSC Completes 100 Years

The Union Public Service Commission completed 100 years in 2026. The centenary celebrations were held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 1 October. A commemorative postage stamp, a special coin and a compilation of 100 important case laws were released during the celebrations.

For students, the important point is not just the centenary year. UPSC is closely connected with recruitment to several major civil services and constitutional provisions relating to Public Service Commissions are found in Articles 315 to 323 of the Constitution.

Exam Point: UPSC completed 100 years in 2026.

2. MSP for Rabi Crops for Marketing Season 2027-28

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved higher Minimum Support Prices for all mandated Rabi crops for the Marketing Season 2027-28.

The highest absolute increase was announced for safflower at ₹675 per quintal. Rapeseed and mustard received an increase of ₹413 per quintal, while lentil received an increase of ₹390 per quintal.

Crop MSP 2027-28 Increase
Wheat ₹2,610 ₹25
Barley ₹2,286 ₹136
Gram ₹5,958 ₹83
Lentil ₹7,390 ₹390
Rapeseed and Mustard ₹6,613 ₹413
Safflower ₹7,215 ₹675

3. PM E-DRIVE Scheme Extended with ₹11,900 Crore Outlay

The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement Scheme, known as PM E-DRIVE, received an extended implementation period up to 31 March 2028 with a total outlay of ₹11,900 crore.

The scheme supports electric mobility through demand incentives, charging infrastructure, electric buses and improvements in testing facilities. The government stated that the scheme supports incentives for about 28.30 lakh electric vehicles, while 26.59 lakh EVs had been sold by June 2026.

Remember: PM E-DRIVE outlay: ₹11,900 crore. Extended up to: 31 March 2028.

4. GOBARdhan Scheme for Compressed Biogas

The Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas launched the GOBARdhan Central Sector Scheme on 1 October 2026 to accelerate development of India's Compressed Biogas sector.

The scheme was approved with an outlay of ₹23,731 crore and provides a ten-year framework covering FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36. It aims to increase domestic Compressed Biogas production nearly tenfold to around 5 MMSCMD.

The scheme brings together measures such as assured offtake, stable pricing, capital assistance, pipeline connectivity and credit support. The GOBARdhan Handbook and Unified GOBARdhan Portal were also launched.

5. Green Energy Corridor Phase III Approved

The Union Cabinet approved the third phase of the Green Energy Corridor with an outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore. The project is designed to strengthen intra-state transmission infrastructure and support the evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy.

A major feature is the planned deployment of 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems. The combination of transmission and storage is important because producing solar or wind power is only one part of the challenge; the electricity also has to reach the grid when consumers need it.

Key Numbers: ₹1,86,405 crore | 135 GW renewable energy evacuation | 50 GWh battery storage.

6. AFSPA Continues in Specified Northeast Areas

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 continued from 1 October 2026 in specified disturbed areas of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh for another six months, unless withdrawn earlier.

In Manipur, the disturbed-area notification excludes specified areas under 13 police stations. In Nagaland, the notification covers nine districts along with specified police-station areas in five other districts. In Arunachal Pradesh, Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and specified areas of Namsai district are covered.

This is particularly important for Assam and Northeast-focused preparation because questions on the Act often test the states covered, the meaning of a disturbed area and the section under which such declarations are made.

7. NHAI Introduces Barrierless Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling in Tamil Nadu

The National Highways Authority of India rolled out Tamil Nadu's first barrierless Multi-Lane Free Flow tolling system. The technology is designed to reduce the need for vehicles to stop at conventional toll plazas and supports more seamless highway movement.

2 October was observed as Gandhi Jayanti, marking the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The day also marked the 122nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri.

For quick revision, remember the two names together: Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869, while Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on 2 October 1904.

9. More Than 2.42 Lakh Special Gram Sabhas

More than 2.42 lakh Special Gram Sabhas were scheduled across India on Gandhi Jayanti. These meetings formed part of the People’s Plan Campaign 2026-27, known as “Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas”.

The discussions are connected with preparation of Panchayat Development Plans for the financial year 2027-28. This makes the topic useful for understanding grassroots governance and participatory planning.

10. First Tigress Released in Buxa Tiger Reserve

A major wildlife conservation development took place in West Bengal with the release of the first tigress under the tiger reintroduction programme in Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Buxa Tiger Reserve is located in Alipurduar district of West Bengal near the Bhutan border. The reintroduction programme is intended to strengthen the tiger population and restore the ecological role of the species in the landscape.

Exam Point: Buxa Tiger Reserve is in West Bengal.

11. Jawahar Dweep Becomes India's First Plastic-Free Oil Terminal

Mumbai Port Authority declared Jawahar Dweep Marine Oil Terminal plastic-free during a Swachhata Abhiyan programme on Gandhi Jayanti.

The Government extended the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products scheme, commonly known as RoDTEP, up to 31 December 2026 for eligible exporters.

The government also extended the operational timelines of the RELIEF intervention, which is intended to support exporters facing logistics disruptions. These developments are important for understanding India's export-support measures.

13. 28 Places and Features in Ladakh Standardised on Official Maps

The Government of India, in consultation with the Union Territory of Ladakh, identified 28 places and features in Ladakh by standard place and feature names for inclusion on the official map of the Survey of India.

The topic connects geography, cartography, territorial administration and official mapping, making it useful for revision beyond the headline itself.

14. India's Women’s Hockey Team Wins Asian Games Gold

India's women's hockey team won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The achievement came after a long gap and was one of India's notable results during the Games.

Science and Technology Fact: QKD demonstration distance: 5.56 km.

18. India's First Commercial CubeSat-Class Thermal Payload TAPAS-1

TAPAS-1 attracted attention in India's private space and thermal-imaging ecosystem. The payload was developed by Ahmedabad-based Satleo Labs and is designed to capture thermal information using long-wave infrared sensing.

Thermal imaging is useful because it can reveal temperature patterns that ordinary visible-light cameras cannot directly capture. This makes such technology relevant for applications involving Earth observation, infrastructure and environmental monitoring.

19. Sabarmati River Bridge for Bullet Train Project Completed

A 480-metre-long bridge over the Sabarmati River was completed as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. The bridge is around 36 metres high and uses a specialised Balanced Cantilever construction method.

Assam and Northeast Current Affairs

Classical Assamese Centre of Excellence at Tezpur University

The approval of a Centre of Excellence for Classical Assamese at Tezpur University is one of the most important Assam-focused developments in this four-day current-affairs set. The initiative is intended to support research, preservation, digitisation and wider dissemination of linguistic and literary heritage.

For Assam-focused preparation, this is worth remembering as a three-part combination: Classical Assamese - Tezpur University - Centre of Excellence.

AFSPA Coverage in the Northeast

The continuation of AFSPA in specified areas of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh from 1 October is another important Northeast topic. Arunachal Pradesh areas covered by the notification include Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts along with specified areas in Namsai district.

Because Namsai shares a connection with the Assam-Arunachal regional geography, this topic is useful when revising Northeast maps, internal security and inter-state geographical relationships together.

Why Assam Students Should Track Northeast Current Affairs

Assam-focused preparation becomes much stronger when Northeast developments are not studied in isolation. A policy decision in Arunachal Pradesh, a security development in Manipur or a cultural initiative in Assam can easily connect with geography, polity, environment, economy and regional development.

A practical way to revise is to maintain one small Northeast section in your notebook. Add the state, place, organisation and one important fact. This takes less time than maintaining separate pages for every state.

How to Revise These Four Days Without Getting Overwhelmed

If you are revising these current affairs before a test, do not try to read the complete article repeatedly. First remember the numbers: ₹11,900 crore for PM E-DRIVE, ₹23,731 crore for GOBARdhan, ₹1,86,405 crore for Green Energy Corridor III, 5.56 km for the quantum communication demonstration and 85 medals for India's Asian Games campaign.

Next, connect the places. Tezpur University means Classical Assamese. Buxa means West Bengal. Jawahar Dweep means Mumbai. Desert National Park means Great Indian Bustard. Bharat Mandapam means the UPSC centenary celebrations. These small associations make revision much faster.

Finally, solve the MCQs without looking at the answers. If you miss a question, return only to that topic rather than rereading the entire article. This simple habit saves time and also shows which facts actually need another revision.
